GitHub Integration with ProdPad

June 25, 2013

2 minute read

Following closely on the heels of the JIRA, Pivotal Tracker, and Trello integrations we launched recently, we now have a direct GitHub integration.

Our goal is to give you and your team a smooth flow from ideation to product spec to development.

With this, you’ll be able to link your ideas and finished product specs with tickets in GitHub.

Setting up a GitHub integration with ProdPad

The integration allows you to push finished ideas or user stories directly to Github, creating a link straight back to ProdPad.

To set up the integration, log in and head to the Integrations & API page, and click on the GitHub icon to get started.

We then ask you to give the connection a meaningful name (such as ‘GitHub development tasks’), and then simply authorise the connection using OAuth. We don’t need your password, and it takes just a second.

You’ll then be asked to simply pick a repository from your GitHub account, and we’ll do the rest.

Sending Product Specs from ProdPad to GitHub

Now when you finish a product spec in ProdPad and you want to send it over to development, you can do so with one click.

Head to any idea in your product backlog, and click on the ‘Push idea to…’ button. You’ll see a list of all of your active integrations, and clicking on your newly minted GitHub integration will send that product spec over to GitHub as a new ticket, and in turn will create a link to and from the ticket.

API and more integrations

We now offer direct integrations with JIRA, Trello, Pivotal Tracker, and GitHub, and we’re always looking for new intgration ideas. If you’re a developer, we’re building out the API for direct access. If not, send us your suggestions on what you’d like to see us integrate with next!

Get in touch at hello@prodpad.com if you’ve got a particular integration in mind.

Using a different tool?

If GitHub (or JIRA, Pivotal Tracker and Trello) isn’t your development tool of choice, don’t worry! We possibly already have you covered with our Zapier integration. Have a look at their full list of integrations available, now up to more than 240 3rd-party services you probably already use.
