The ideas list is a collection of all ideas in your account, sorted in three tabs:

  • Unsorted are all of those ideas that have yet to be reviewed or actioned. Generally these are categorized as 'New ideas.'
  • Backlog are all of those ideas that you have already looked at and made edits/changes to. We generally recommend creating a stage called "In review" or "In validation" to indicate the idea has been looked at and is no longer a 'New idea' waiting to be sorted.
  • Archived are all of those ideas that you have decided to remove from your Unsorted or Backlog views. We generally recommend creating statuses to indicate why, such as "Duplicate," "Not doing," or "Failed experiment," for example.

Each tab has three subviews:

  • List - This view shows your backlog in a list form. You can very quickly view important meta information such as tags, team votes, impact, and effort.
  • Chart - This view shows you the priority chart.
  • Workflow - This view shows you all ideas in a Kanban board view, so you can quickly move ideas through your workflow.

For all views, you can sort through your ideas by applying filters. Applying filters will have an impact on all three subviews, for easy visibility.

You can also manage your List Settings to decide the level of visibility on each list tab.

Each idea list tab can be configured to show as much or as little information as needed. This is set on a per tab basis (meaning Unsorted and Backlog can be customized differently) and on a per-user basis.

To begin editing, click on List Settings.

The Ideas list isn't only highly customizable, but also allows you to make quick changes inline.

Here's how to get that done:

Select your list columns

Within the ideas list, select the columns you wish to see. These same columns will be available for editing as you triage. Remember that you can select your own custom settings for Unsorted, Backlog and Archived!

Click to edit

Once you have selected your list, click to edit any of the items inline to make changes.

We generally recommend pairing up your workflows with the specific lists, that way you can highlight what it takes to get an idea from 'New Idea' in the unsorted list (while it still requires validation) all the way through to implementation.

There are two ways of moving an idea between the available lists:

From the Ideas List

Select the ideas you wish to move and you will see an inline contextual menu show up.

Click on the current state to show the dropdown menu, and select the one you wish to move it to.

From the idea view

You can also change the idea stage from the idea itself by clicking on the current stage button at the top right, then selecting the new one.

You can update all your existing ideas at once by using the "bulk edit" option in the ideas list page.

With this option you can add tags, user personas, products, as well as change status, state, author, and owner.

To begin the bulk editing process, click on the checkbox above the ideas list. This will allow you to highlight all ideas on the page, select your entire filtered list (if you have any filters applied,) or modify your entire backlog.

Once you have made the desired selection, a slide out will pop out allowing to make the necessary changes.

You can also bulk edit your search results by clicking on "bulk edit" on the search results page.

Important!

Bulk update will only add to the ideas, it will not remove any previously selected attributes.
